Private Confines (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #10)   Leave a comment

In private confines
My inner child cries
The inner tears she had to hide
As she cowered in her room
And saw the light fade from view
Kept safe, under lock and key
That's the lie I sold to me
But she sits in the dark alone
And cries out in fear and pain
Hoping that she'll see the day
She finally gets to be free.

Sorry it took so long.

Thinking (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #9)   Leave a comment

Today, my thoughts are scattershot.
My brain fell down the stairs.
I thought I'd think, but I can not;
It caught me unawares.
My brain is robbed of all it's got,
They even took the sink.
At least it's quiet without thought.
At least, that's what I think.

Kiss Me Like A Leaf (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #8)   Leave a comment

Kiss me like a leaf
Being kissed by morning dew.
Hold me with your gravity
As Jupiter holds its moons.
Crave me, need me, want me,
As a hammer wants for nails.
Hunt me with a passion,
Like a dog chasing its tail.
Sculpt me with caresses;
Be an artist to my clay.
Explore my every facet;
Be the guide who finds a way.
Help me pierce the silence
Like a shrill and high-pitched scream.
Let me live inside your head
Like a fondly cherished dream.
Just kiss me like a leaf
Being kissed by morning dew.
Oh please, darling, love me
As much as I love you.

The Battle (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #7)   Leave a comment

On the verge of greatness,
As this battle music rages
I move in to make the killing blow.

My foe is legendary
But, now cornered, he's wary.
He makes one last move, but too slow.

As his sword goes askew,
My blade point strikes true!
I have finally vanquished my foe.

The victory music sings
As the exp bar dings.
One level down, just 19 more to go.

Watching (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #6)   Leave a comment

I sit on the bench and watch myself
Living someone else's life,
Having someone else's dreams,
Reaching someone else's goals,
All as my time slips away
And days go by unfulfilled;
Hoping I can find the courage
To finally live my self

Refuse (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #5)   Leave a comment

I am discarded refuse
Refusing to biodegrade
Shouting in defiance
As I eke out a place
In this inconsistent world
Only to end up in a landfill
With the other things we forget

Flakes of Snow (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #4)   Leave a comment

The flakes of snow caress the sky
Then lie at rest upon the ground
Just like a bird who learns to fly
The flakes of snow caress the sky
I wish that I could soar as high
and float, carefree, with friends around
The flakes of snow caress the sky
Then lie at rest upon the ground

Hurry Up and Wait (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #3)   Leave a comment

Time to rev your engines!
Hurry up and wait!
We need you taut and ready
For an unspecified date.

We need you to be vigilant,
To guard, to anticipate
The problems that may never come.
So hurry up and wait.

Sea of Diamonds (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #2)   Leave a comment

I woke to a sea of diamonds
On a dark velvet veil
Their beauty was a sight to behold

Because each glistening diamond
Is a story of passion
A story just begging to be told

I woke to a sea of diamonds
On a dark velvet veil
Their brilliance was unabating

Because each glistening diamond
Is a beckoning siren
Each song is truly captivating

I woke to a sea of diamonds
On a dark velvet veil
Each shimmer, a memory I'll keep

Because each glistening diamond
Is a warm woolen blanket
As I finally drift back to sleep

First and Last (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #1)   Leave a comment

There's a first time for everything:
A first step,
A first dance,
A first thought coalescing.
A first breath,
A first love,
A string of firsts until
We reach our list of lasts.
A last meal,
A last dream,
A last thought reminiscing.
A last smile,
A last chance
A last time for our every thing.
