Summer Rain (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #30)   Leave a comment

Summer rains cleanse the mind
Leaving stains and blemish behind
Finding relaxation and calm
Soothed by falling water’s balm
So kiss the cloudy skies
And let the rain fall from your eyes
For when the storm is through
A better day will spring anew

Unexplored (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #29)   Leave a comment

Living in-between dreams
Dancing in between destinies
Skipping over the strings of fate
Carving your own path
Standing at a fork in the road
Cut a trail through the mountain
Pick the road never travelled
And make all the difference

Hiding (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #28)   Leave a comment

Much of life is spent in hiding;
Time is sand that runs through fingers.
Always smiling and abiding,
Much of life is spent in hiding.
So I write these words for guiding
And leave you with a thought that lingers:
Much of life is spent in hiding;
Time is sand that runs through fingers.

Mirror, Mirror (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #27)   Leave a comment

Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
Is there reason to it all?
Does pride go before the fall?
Mirror, mirror, on the wall.

Mirror, mirror, that I see,
Is this all that’s meant for me?
Is this what I’m meant to be?
Mirror, mirror, that I see.

Mirror, mirror, in my sight,
On this foul, accursed night
Show me which path is the right!
Mirror, mirror, in my sight.

Mirror, mirror, in my mind,
Do not leave me waiting blind.
Lie, and I’ll respond in kind,
Mirror, mirror, in my mind

Mirror, mirror, lying broke.
Fie on the foul truth you spoke;
Unsettling stirrings you awoke!
Mirror,mirror, lying broke.

Mirror, mirror, fade to dust.
Final feelings of disgust.
All achievements turned to rust.
Mirror, mirror, fade to dust.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
Of a kingdom once stood tall.
Now a final, fitting pall.
Mirror, mirror, on the wall.

Lazy Sunday Afternoon (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #26)   Leave a comment

Lazy Sunday afternoon
Laying in the sun
Letting myself drift
Leaving the important things
Laying in the sun
Loving the peace and quiet
Laying in the sun on my
Lazy Sunday afternoon

Empty (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #25)   Leave a comment

Every day I feel a little more tired
My body getting slower and softer
Pacing myself a little more as I go
Trying a little harder each day
Yet I am still feeling the strain
Of running on empty.

I Write The Words (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #24)   Leave a comment

I draw the lines for none to see
I write the words for none to hear
I place my thoughts upon the page
So they won’t rot and disappear
I write so that the present me
Will not be lost to history
I place my thoughts for you to read
So they won’t rot and disappear

Slothfully (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #23)   Leave a comment

Slothfully I lay
The day drifts
And it wastes away
I am left
With not much to say
Much to do

True Self (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #22)   Leave a comment

Often, the people you see everyday
Aren’t really the people you know
Because you only hear the things they say
Only see the things that they choose to show

You see the outfit they wear on parade
The colors and choices they show outside
But what we display in our masquerade
Is just the shield we are using to hide

Our true selves are vulnerable to harms
Brought on by others who don’t understand
We wish to be welcomed with open arms
Instead we are slapped by an outstretched hand

And so our true self stays locked in our mind
Well hidden, only for ourselves to find

Phantom (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #21)   Leave a comment

I’m a disembodied voice
Hoping from cell tower to cell tower
A set of fingers
Running across your Ethernet cable
A memory
Pasted across your Facebook wall
A parasocial phantom of the internet
And I like it that way
