Along the lake (National Poetry Writing Month 2022 #3)   Leave a comment

I skip along the rocks again
Just like we used to do
And dance along the memories
Of when our love was true

I throw a stone into the lake
And shatter all it's glass
The ripples move like memories
Like echoes of our past

I sit my self upon the shore
And stare into the trees
And hear the words you said to me
Scatter upon the breeze

I take a breath and close my eyes
And focus on your face
For one last time I say goodbye
And drift off into space

Memory/Inside My Mind (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #7)   Leave a comment

My memory stills
Lost inside a dream
Moving as fate wills
Down the living stream
As I’m laid to rest
As I fade from view
As life leaves my chest
I will dream of you.

Inside my mind
I find you here
Our ties that bind
Will bring us near
No need to stay
You can be free
Just one more day
Here next to me.

My memory stills inside my mind.
Lost inside a dream, I find you here.
Moving as fate wills, our ties that bind
Down the living stream, will bring us near.
As I’m laid to rest, no need to stay.
As I fade from view, you can be free.
As life leaves my chest, just one more day
I will dream of you, here next to me.

Opposites   Leave a comment

You and I are:

Peanut butter and a cheese burger,
Strawberries and pizza,
Whiskey and grape juice,
Pop music and death metal.

Two things which seem wrong together.
But, for a few select people,
We are perfectly matched.

Let’s Die Together, Shall We? (National Poetry Writing Month 2019 #7)   Leave a comment

Suicidal thoughts ought to be shared with those closest to you.
It is what Romeo and Juliet taught us all to do.
They were a comedy of errors, a tragedy of youth.
Let’s die together, shall we?

Where I have gotten older, both much meeker and much bolder;
Although I could continue to shoulder this burden with you,
This boulder is too heavy, and I am not getting stronger.
So let’s just give in, shall we?

Those who surround us, who don’t understand, would call it a waste.
Haven’t we had enough of life to know it isn’t for us?
We will never aquire from life our life’s aquired taste.
So let’s spit it out, shall we?

For it isn’t real true love if I only give you my life
And so I pledge my existence, my story’s ending, to you.
With this final act our love springs eternal for all to view.
Let’s die together, shall we?

Zombie   Leave a comment

I miss you the way a heart misses a beat.
One moment you’re gone and that’s the death of me.
I drag my corpse along; a shambling zombie.
Searching for my soul: the way you complete me.

A Blessing for Marriage   1 comment

We spend our whole lives searching high and low.
We struggle past obstacles near and far.
We fight every day so that we can know,
That we have found love here, right where we are.

Thousands have said it in a million ways:
With poems, with music, with works of art.
Expressing true love for all of our days,
Giving a voice to our quivering heart.

Your actions today are your confession
Of all of your feelings you couldn’t hide.
You transcend words with this, your expression:
The act of you standing here, side by side

I know I speak for us all as I say,
“May you be forever blessed on this day.”

I Could Never Love You   Leave a comment

I could never love you.
It’s not because I don’t love you;
It’s just that I can never love you
The way you’d love me to.

Untitled #2   Leave a comment

You don’t get to preach violence and hate,
And then regret it when you get it.
Their deaths are on your plate.
Yet you have the gall to celebrate
5 deaths, 2 deaths, any death is too many
You lose any respect from me when you hop on twitter
And spout hate speech in the name of tolerance

Oh, you’re frustrated? I am too.
In fact, I was on your side until I saw what you say and do
The things you say hit strong, that’s fine
That’s not the problem
The issue is when you pervert the truth
Take something right, and turn it wrong

I don’t care who you represent
All lives, blue lives, or black lives matter
When blood is shed in your name, we all get splattered
You’re supposedly above this, you’re supposed to be an example
But with this, all you’re doing is trampling on the efforts
Of the people out there who are trying to do good.

Please don’t prove the demagogues right.
Don’t give ammunition to their bigotry; their fear.
What you are doing is a good way to blow it all up.
You say you’re standing for love, so show it.

That should be enough.

Attraction (National Poetry Writing Month #24)   Leave a comment

A force pulling things together
Difficult to separate
Is it magnetism or love?

Early morning   Leave a comment

Early morning rainy day
Washes the night away
Making the world how it was before.

But it won’t wash these memories
Thoughts of love, of you and me
It only cleans the tears up off the floor.
