Decisions (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #30)   Leave a comment

I’m staring out at my future
And I’m full of indecision.
Caught between doing what is right
And what is convenient for me.

The right is a road untraveled,
Unpaved, unknown, and uncertain.
It frightens me with possibility
With the difficult path it promises.

The left is a well paved road.
Well intentioned and familiar bricks;
A path inviting me tread upon it,
Easy and lacking any challenge.

I see the choice laid out before me.
The best in me knows the hard path is best
But inside I know I, most likely,
I will choose the path of least resistance.

Objects On My Mantle (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #29)   Leave a comment

Several decks of cards I never shuffle
A symbolic flask I never drink from
An edgy looking raven sitting on a skull
A misplaced bag of party balloons
A pair of locks I picked out to pick
A trio of relics, with tokens inside
A little metal obelisk I got in the mail

Stain (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #28)   Leave a comment

There are things that forever stain a man.
Things so potent and dark
They remain on one’s hands;
Clinging, wash after wash.
Many things come to mind,
But none so nefarious and indelible
As pomegranate juice.

Life Gardening (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #27)   Leave a comment

Time moves too swiftly.
Relationships turn to rot
Without proper care.
Our lives become barren deserts.
Trying to replant again
Is a much harder struggle,
As the Earth is dry,
And the nutrients sparse.
But with care and effort
And a focus on the fleeting,
We can make our lives fertile
And regrow our relationships.

Role Playing (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #26)   Leave a comment

I enjoy role playing,
Even if I’m not good at it.
I guess I feel the same about life.
The fun comes from the experience
Of the time spent with friends
And making interesting stories together.
The strength of your abilities,
Or the value of your equipment
Doesn’t matter so much.
If the goal is gaining riches,
Or battling dragons,
Or gaining renown,
Then I’m not very good at it.
But if it’s enjoying the adventure?
I think I’m getting pretty good at it.

Self Loathing (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #25)   Leave a comment

I’m in love with self loathing,
My ill fitting clothing,
The face in the mirror
I find unattractive.
The cowardly wallflower
Not under his own power.
Not taking the first step,
Merely being reactive.
Best at procrastinating,
Lazy and frustrating,
Doing only what is needed,
Otherwise I’m inactive.
I don’t like that man.
But try as I can
I don’t get why I
Find him so attractive.

Hold It In (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #24)   Leave a comment

Hold it in, hold it in,
‘Til your world begins to spin.
Keep the thoughts below the surface, keep them securely within.
Breathe it out, breathe it out
Keep it calm and do not shout.
The repercussions would be something you could really do without.

Hold it in, hold it in
Hold it strong and you will win.
You will win the argument by never letting it begin.
Breathe it out, breathe it out,
Keep lowering the amount.
Find a solution or compromise, that’s what you’re all about.

Don’t get hot, don’t get hot,
Don’t become something you’re not.
Count to ten and take a second, remember what you’ve been taught.
Keep it cool, keep it cool,
Take you darker self to school.
You’re it’s prisoner no longer and your mind is yours to rule.

Don’t get hot, don’t get hot,
Soon the rage will be forgot.
You spent a little bit of patience for the victory you’ve bought.
Keep it cool, keep it cool,
Just like an undisturbed pool.
In control of your emotions, you are no longer a fool.

Pleasant Day (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #23)   Leave a comment

Skies so blue, and trees so green
Gentle winds, my mind feels clean
The sunlight warms, my worries fade
Shade so cool, my fears allayed
This pleasant day, I feel at peace
Through it’s charm, I find release

Supplements (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #22)   Leave a comment

In order to stay healthy,
One needs a lot of supplements:
2 to 3 hobbies to keep the mind busy,
A few doses of friendship to keep the soul sated,
A place of their own to rest and recharge,
A purpose in life to keep their will pointed,
Occasional adversity to keep themselves strong,
A few mistakes in order to learn,
A well earn triumph to keep up morale,
And a few losses to keep a perspective.
Take the supplements as needed
In order to have a good life.

Self Reflection (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #21)   Leave a comment

People should spend more time in self reflection
Too many are checking out their reflection
Instead of working towards their goals and virtues
We spend time on Facebook for likes and for views
We should be working towards improving our self
But we leave all our dreams sitting on the shelf
We’ve become Narcissis, trapped in our own gaze
Locked in our own prisons, for all of our days
