Destinations (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #24)   Leave a comment

Life is a journey of destinations
Pit stops we take as we go down the road.
Dazzling delights and grueling frustrations
Movement and rest as we carry the load.
You may take a wrong turn or think you're mistaken.
At least, that's what I've heard most people say.
But I like to think each step you've taken
Is a new destination in its own way.

Packing (National Poetry Writing Month 2022 #24)   Leave a comment

Put my life into neat little boxes
And pack them nice and tidy
Memories, dreams, hopes
Everything in its place
Carry it around with me
No matter where I go
Until it gets to heavy
And starts to grow roots
Then I'll let it flower
And grow into something beautiful
Until it's finally time
To pack my life up
Nice and tidy
And move along again

Framework (National Poetry Writing Month 2021 #24)   Leave a comment

We are built from memories.
Some are like mist, some crystal clear.
Smell or taste, a pleasant breeze.
Tears, or the song of a loved one.
Forgotten, just as easily.
But their absence is our framework.

I Write The Words (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #24)   Leave a comment

I draw the lines for none to see
I write the words for none to hear
I place my thoughts upon the page
So they won’t rot and disappear
I write so that the present me
Will not be lost to history
I place my thoughts for you to read
So they won’t rot and disappear

Uncertain (National Poetry Writing Month 2019 #24)   Leave a comment

We are born as uncertainties
With futures we can’t know
They’re full of possibilities
Of many ways to go

As the years keep moving forward
Our path may not be clear
If we don’t choose one to move toward
The best will disappear

So make your choice, and make it well
For when you must ascend
Good or bad, there’s no way to tell
Until you reach the end

Hold It In (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #24)   Leave a comment

Hold it in, hold it in,
‘Til your world begins to spin.
Keep the thoughts below the surface, keep them securely within.
Breathe it out, breathe it out
Keep it calm and do not shout.
The repercussions would be something you could really do without.

Hold it in, hold it in
Hold it strong and you will win.
You will win the argument by never letting it begin.
Breathe it out, breathe it out,
Keep lowering the amount.
Find a solution or compromise, that’s what you’re all about.

Don’t get hot, don’t get hot,
Don’t become something you’re not.
Count to ten and take a second, remember what you’ve been taught.
Keep it cool, keep it cool,
Take you darker self to school.
You’re it’s prisoner no longer and your mind is yours to rule.

Don’t get hot, don’t get hot,
Soon the rage will be forgot.
You spent a little bit of patience for the victory you’ve bought.
Keep it cool, keep it cool,
Just like an undisturbed pool.
In control of your emotions, you are no longer a fool.

Day Off (National Poetry Writing Month 2017 #24)   Leave a comment

Taking a day off
Is just work postponed
The emails keep coming
The pile keeps growing
The problems get worse
So my mind can’t rest
As I cannot relax
And forget about work
Because work never rests

Attraction (National Poetry Writing Month #24)   Leave a comment

A force pulling things together
Difficult to separate
Is it magnetism or love?

World (National Poetry Writing Month 2015 #24)   Leave a comment

The world is full of vitriolic hate
Spewing out onto our plate.
But there’s never enough to sate
The warmongering bloodlust,
The drive to turn all things to dust,
The will to watch the world combust.

I don’t know the way to save the world.
How to stop the bombs from being hurled.
To stop the flags from being unfurled.
And so they march friend against friend.
Now everyone is broken; no one would bend.
And through their actions, comes the world’s end.

Insignificance   Leave a comment

Insignificance:
Just one more drop of water
In an endless sea
