I Hate The Dentist (National Poetry Writing Month 2026 #6)   Leave a comment

Don't get me wrong,
I like MY dentist.
He's very kind and patient
While explaining why I need
Yet another crown
He's very skilled and attentive
While I lie back for
My torture session
He's got a wonderful partner,
A cat he loves,
And enjoys traveling the world
And oh, by the way,
I've got another tooth
In need of a crown
I leave with an empty wallet
And a sore, tingling mouth
I'll happily see him again
Because I really hate the dentist
But at least I like MY dentist

Crown (National Poetry Writing Month 2025 #24)   Leave a comment

Heavy is the crown
That sits upon my tooth.
Temporary it may be,
But my tooth has a decree:
"Verily, this land will be cleansed!
Brushed with mint scented clouds,
Washed in blue floods of rain,
And ropes dragged through the streets!"
I acquiesce to his demands,
As I prefer a single monarch
With only a single crown.

Cavities (National Poetry Writing Month 2017 #10)   Leave a comment

I’ve got too many cavities
That need to be filled
So I seek a professional
Who will give them a drill
He’ll help make me numb
So I don’t feel a thing
And he’ll give me the gas
So my thoughts can take wing
And I’ll laugh as he works
As he drills the holes wide
As my mind disappears
He puts metal inside
When he is finished
And I’m no longer numb
I may feel less empty
But I’ll never be done
