Memories of Another Life (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #22)   Leave a comment

In my mind, I see
Memories of another life,
A life I chose not to live.
With flashes of smiles and heartaches,
Of love and of loss.
Memories that aren't mine,
but could have been,
If I didn't live my own.
I wonder, am I also
Thinking about myself
In that life I chose not to live?

I Don’t Know (National Poetry Writing Month 2022 #22)   Leave a comment

Lots of books on my shelf
With lots of things to say
But I don't know the half of it
'Cause I only read halfway

Lots of movies in my list
Lots of shows to see
But I don't know the half of it
'Cause you're sitting here with me

Lots of people in the world
With lots of things to do
But I don't know the half of it
'Cause I spend my time with you

Ripple of Fate (National Poetry Writing Month 2021 #22)   Leave a comment

The ripples
Of all our actions
Crash and break
Patterns form
Beyond the comprehension
Of our mortal minds

The world spins
Twirling strings of lives
Bound firmly
Together
We can't break their hold on us
With our mortal hands

Fate engulfs
Paths already walked
Steps taken
All foretold
Destiny predetermined
For simple mortals

True Self (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #22)   Leave a comment

Often, the people you see everyday
Aren’t really the people you know
Because you only hear the things they say
Only see the things that they choose to show

You see the outfit they wear on parade
The colors and choices they show outside
But what we display in our masquerade
Is just the shield we are using to hide

Our true selves are vulnerable to harms
Brought on by others who don’t understand
We wish to be welcomed with open arms
Instead we are slapped by an outstretched hand

And so our true self stays locked in our mind
Well hidden, only for ourselves to find

Matthew 5:5 (National Poetry Writing Month 2019 #22)   Leave a comment

The meek shall not inherit the earth
If it means they are weak
It takes a great amount of strength
To turn the other cheek

Someone needs a lot of power
To choose to stay their hand
To keep their emotions in check
Their pride under command

Acts of kindness do not matter
If you couldn’t be bad
It’s when you choose to be better
That virtue will be had

Supplements (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #22)   Leave a comment

In order to stay healthy,
One needs a lot of supplements:
2 to 3 hobbies to keep the mind busy,
A few doses of friendship to keep the soul sated,
A place of their own to rest and recharge,
A purpose in life to keep their will pointed,
Occasional adversity to keep themselves strong,
A few mistakes in order to learn,
A well earn triumph to keep up morale,
And a few losses to keep a perspective.
Take the supplements as needed
In order to have a good life.

March (National Poetry Writing Month 2017 #22)   Leave a comment

March for science in April
Maybe you’ll be heard in June
If you lie in July about your motives
Then disgust will be heard in August
You can wake me up when September ends
If you solved the problem in October
I’m sure I will know in November
Or December will will be colder than
Last year in January
In February someone will get the grand idea
To March for science in April
Maybe you’ll be heard

Anxiety (National Poetry Writing Month 2015 #22)   Leave a comment

It’s going to be ok
Seriously,
It’s going to be ok.
Things are going be going your way.
So don’t worry,
It will be ok.

It’s going to be alright.
I’m telling you,
Its going to be alright.
Things will work out, please just sit tight.
So don’t worry,
It will be alright.

It’s all going to be fine,
Just relax.
It’s going to be fine.
You’re always expecting things to decline.
But don’t worry.
It will be fine.

I hear the words,
But I don’t believe
It’s just myself
I’m trying to deceive.
It always seems to be haunting me.
This crippling sense of anxiety.

Weightless   Leave a comment

I wish I was weightless.
Floating freely in space.
Unbound,
Unchained,
Unrestricted.
But instead
I am stuck here on earth.
Responsibitliy,
Debt,
Defeat,
Gravity
Holding me down.
