Demon (National Poetry Writing Month 2024 #16)   Leave a comment

Stare at the sun until your eyes start to hurt
Bury your ideals six feet in the dirt
Wash in the blood of your innermost child
Become the prophet, eyes desperate and wild
Become the monster, devour their dreams
Drink in their misery, bathe in their screams
Become the demon you know you must be.
Become the demon that they want to see.

Ruminating (National Poetry Writing Month 2024 #15)   Leave a comment

Worrying about futures that won't exist
Dreaming up battles I don't need to win
Seeking temptations that I won't resist
Facing the ending before I begin

Dwelling on problems that have come and gone
Commiserating over my mistakes
Replaying the game when all's said and done
Losing my chips after seeing the stakes

Never embracing the moment I'm in
Never taking time to enjoy the show
Not taking a second to gaze within
Worrying about then, not here and now

Dreading the future, and stuck in the past
Without the present, my first is my last.

Free Time (National Poetry Writing Month 2024 #14)   Leave a comment

I spent my time away
From my responsibilities today.
My duties can make way;
It's time to go and play!
I spent this time for me
And let myself be free
'Cause tomorrow I will be
The pinnacle of responsibility.

Inertia (National Poetry Writing Month 2024 #13)   Leave a comment

A thought in motion
Stays in motion
A mistake at rest
Stays at rest
The thought spirals
Until it hits the mistake
A grand enough thought
Can move past a mistake
But a big enough mistake
Will stifle all progress

Caution: Open Flame (National Poetry Writing Month 2024 #12)   Leave a comment

I burn people who get close to me
Like a branding iron made of jokes
Like a stovetop you forgot was on Tinder
Or a campfire you ran into at a bus stop
For your own and everyone else's safety
Either put me out or stay far away
You wouldn't want to get burnt

No Idea (National Poetry Writing Month 2024 #11)   Leave a comment

Someone pulled out the stopper
My ideas swirled down the drain
I only have the scarecrow
"If I only had a brain!"
Tumbleweed is in my skull
My track has misplaced its train
Today I'm taking a break Tomorrow I'll think again

Control (National Poetry Writing Month 2024 #10)   Leave a comment

It makes me sad
But I can't do anything about it
I'm not the one in control
It makes me mad
But I cannot stop it
I'm not the one in control
It brings me joy
But it can't stay forever
I'm not the one in control
It brings me peace
But it won't always be still
I'm not the one in control

Chemotherapy (National Poetry Writing Month 2024 #9)   Leave a comment

I'm chemotherapy
I'm dosed out to people who are unhealthy
People who are desperate
People looking to survive
I stay in their life long enough
To make their last few moments miserable
Or I help them get better
And one day they realize
They don't need me anymore

Silence: A Ketek (National Poetry Writing Month 2024 #8)   Leave a comment

Deafening silence.
A cry ceasing
To hear danger.
Heard to cease crying.
A silence,
Deafening.

Bored (National Poetry Writing Month 2024 #7)   Leave a comment

I'm so bored
I need a mistake
Or a disaster to deal with
Some sort of tragedy
To sink my teeth into
I don't want contentment
But good crisis to chew on
If I don't have one at home
Store bought is fine
