Scatter brain every day
To feed my thought chickens
Then I go grab
The lightbulbs they laid
To make some farm fresh ideas
Or maybe a nice scramble

In a cold night's sleep, I dreamed of love
Truly, I know so little of love
An infant safe in a parent's arms
For the first time, feels the warmth of love
A bride, clad in a brilliant white
Smiles as she makes a vow of love
A man stands in front of a cold slab
Weeping, knowing the absence of love
A cat curls up in a child's lap
Vibrates to the frequency of love
The life leaks out from the young man's wrist
The water red, the color of love
A crooner sings a sweet melody
Bodies sway to the rhythm of love
Some day, as I tread along this path
I'll find my understanding of love

Will you lay down
And make yourself comfortable?
Will you lay down
Instead of scratching up my gown?
I know my flesh feels unstable
But I'm human, not a table!
Will you lay down?

Light is an icepick
Being thrust into my brain
Murdering my peace

Don't worry, the sky isn't falling down
Those aren't scattered shards of stars on the ground
Ignore the man with clouds sticking out of his head
Ignore seeing that beautiful blue turning red
Just listen to me, the voice on your phone
Don't think about all that, this is The Truth Zone
See this picture? The sky is perfectly clear
And look at these memes, you have nothing to fear
Just sleep and dream of those twinkling stars
No need to wonder where they are.

Don't get me wrong,
I like MY dentist.
He's very kind and patient
While explaining why I need
Yet another crown
He's very skilled and attentive
While I lie back for
My torture session
He's got a wonderful partner,
A cat he loves,
And enjoys traveling the world
And oh, by the way,
I've got another tooth
In need of a crown
I leave with an empty wallet
And a sore, tingling mouth
I'll happily see him again
Because I really hate the dentist
But at least I like MY dentist

We have no way of knowing
How many peaks our life will reach
We can look forward to our glory
Or fret about the downhills
I just try to sit back
And enjoy the ride

A hunger never sated
And ever seeking succor
Devours all that passes
Across its sweeping gaze
It matters not the craving
The kind of vice or virtue
It just eats and eats and eats
Until there's nothing more
An appetite is healthy
The source of growth and progress
But try to keep it tempered
Lest it devours you

Kiss me like a leaf
Being blessed by morning dew.
Hold me in your gravity
As Jupiter holds its moons.
Crave me, need me, want me,
As a hammer wants for nails.
Hunt me with your passion,
Like a dog chasing its tail.
Sculpt me with caresses;
Be an artist to my clay.
Explore my every facet
Like a guide who knows the way.
Help me pierce the silence
Like a shrill and high pitched scream.
Let me dance inside your head
Like a fondly cherished dream.
Kiss me like a leaf
Being blessed by morning dew.
Oh please, darling, love me
As much as I love you.

P.S: Salt Lake Speaks was a poetry event I participated in in September 2025. I am posting the poems I read as I may have made minor changes and corrections to the original poem. Original here.
As my memory stills
Lost inside a dream
Moving as fate wills
Down the living stream
As I'm laid to rest
As I fade from view
As life leaves my chest
I will dream of you.
Inside my mind
I find you here
Our ties that bind
Will bring us near
No need to stay
You can be free
Just one more day
Here next to me.
As my memory stills inside my mind.
Lost inside a dream, I find you here.
Moving as fate wills, our ties that bind
Down the living stream, will bring us near.
As I'm laid to rest, no need to stay.
As I fade from view, you can be free.
As life leaves my chest, just one more day
I will dream of you, here next to me.
