Big Words (National Poetry Writing Month 2019 #27)   Leave a comment

I can be a little grandiloquent
Mostly ’cause I tend to use words like grandiloquent
When it would have been more elegant
To say someone is being narcissistic, egotistic,
or a jerk
It unrealistic of me to think a big vocabulary
Would work in conversation
It only seems to cause frustration
My lack of tact makes me implacable
Restraining my verbosity seems intractable
So my adjectives will be exculpative
My verbs vindictive
And my nouns indicative
Of a man who reads the dictionary too much.

Narcissism (National Poetry Writing Month 2019 #26)   Leave a comment

Narcissism is a hell
You don’t even know you’re in
You don’t notice all you lose
You only see when you win

You aren’t able to grow
Life unable to flower
The only things you can know
Are perfect in your tower

You are cursed to see it fall
Screaming your rage at the sky
Not seeing the world at all
Just yourself, until you die.

Get After It! (National Poetry Writing Month 2019 #25)   Leave a comment

Are there issues in life that you need to push through?
Is there something you want to do?
Get after it!

Are you tired of fighting to get through the day?
Of obstacles put in your way?
Get after it!

Do you keep looking for the right moment to start?
You carry a dream in your heart?
Get after it!

Sick and tired of looking for your reason why?
Is there something you want to try?
Get after it!

You don’t want to spend your whole life wondering how;
The answer is start moving now!
Get after it!

Uncertain (National Poetry Writing Month 2019 #24)   Leave a comment

We are born as uncertainties
With futures we can’t know
They’re full of possibilities
Of many ways to go

As the years keep moving forward
Our path may not be clear
If we don’t choose one to move toward
The best will disappear

So make your choice, and make it well
For when you must ascend
Good or bad, there’s no way to tell
Until you reach the end

Technology (National Poetry Writing Month 2019 #23)   Leave a comment

As info downloads via ear
And language is spread by finger
As lifetimes are learned in a year
As loved ones long lost can linger

We all must not forget our past
Or who we truly are at heart
If we are all going to last
We have to remember our start

Matthew 5:5 (National Poetry Writing Month 2019 #22)   Leave a comment

The meek shall not inherit the earth
If it means they are weak
It takes a great amount of strength
To turn the other cheek

Someone needs a lot of power
To choose to stay their hand
To keep their emotions in check
Their pride under command

Acts of kindness do not matter
If you couldn’t be bad
It’s when you choose to be better
That virtue will be had

Seek (National Poetry Writing Month 2019 #21)   1 comment

I seek pleasure in the material
But the effort is a waste
I seek succour in the ethereal
But can’t aquire the taste

I seek refuge in the familiar
But it’s all turned to stone
I seek shelter among others
But my thoughts are alone
