All Things Change (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #19)   Leave a comment

All things change.
Flowing down the stream
Tumbling,
And swirling;
Drifting through vicissitudes
Until it erodes.
It's our choice
To fight against it,
Or accept
And relax.
Because all things fade with time,
So enjoy the ride.

Rainy Day (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #18)   Leave a comment

Rainy day, wash away
The person who I used to be
The person who I didn't see,
The person that I couldn't love

Rainy day, wash away
The painful, bitter memories,
The heartbreaks and the agonies,
The times I had to rise above.

Rainy day, wash away
The boulders getting in my way,
The struggles I choose to downplay,
The ropes and chains bound around me.

Rainy day, wash away
All of the sins of yesterday,
All of the ills I have today,
And let me live a future free.

Hunger/Success/Contentment (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #17)   Leave a comment

Hunger
Intense desire
Burning from within
Desperately we seek succor
Drive

Success
Dreams achieved
On the mountaintop
A moment of accomplishment
Victory

Contentment
Feeling fulfilled
Resting on laurels
A job well done
Peace

Ms. Kitty (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #16)   Leave a comment

Nice and warm
On my lap,
Ms. Kitty
Takes a nap.
Soon enough,
Without fail,
I doze off
And nap as well.

Reaching Out (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #15)   Leave a comment

I'm chasing a dream
Out of reach
In front of me
I stumble forward
Reaching out
But still, I come up empty

I run away from me
Out of time
Just memories
I stumble forward
Reaching out
But still, I come up empty

Regret and heartache
Trace a path
My footprints in the sand
But time and tide
will wash away
The time I've never had

So goodbye and farewell to me
I'll live the future you'll never see

Evolve (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #14)   Leave a comment

The world keeps changing,
Arranging,
And I must evolve.

So complicated.
Frustrated,
I have to evolve.

I need to adapt
Be enrapt,
And so, I evolve

The world moves forward
Flies onward
We all must evolve

Garden of Leaks (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #13)   Leave a comment

My garden of leaks is growing
One whistle-blower a time.
If I water the sources,
And make plenty of bread,
I'll have enough by winter
For a big pot of controversy.

String (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #12)   Leave a comment

The silly string dances on the edge of my sweater
Tempting me to yank it, but I should know better
But finally, it fools me; it is rather long.
I don't need to grab scissors. I mean, what could go wrong?
I grab the thread firmly, and I give it a pull,
Then watch in horror as I see my sleeve unspool.
With morbid curiosity, I pull it some more
Wondering what this journey has in store.
When I'm finally finished, my sweater has fled.
I'm left with a nice ball of yarn instead.

Life Is Pain (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #11)   Leave a comment

Life is pain, from start to end.
  In misery, we strive forward.
Our first bruise, our first heartache,
To our last love, our last goodbye.
Pain is life, our mark on this world.
Hold it closely, it is you.

Private Confines (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #10)   Leave a comment

In private confines
My inner child cries
The inner tears she had to hide
As she cowered in her room
And saw the light fade from view
Kept safe, under lock and key
That's the lie I sold to me
But she sits in the dark alone
And cries out in fear and pain
Hoping that she'll see the day
She finally gets to be free.

Sorry it took so long.
