Sitting in silence
Meaningful conversation
Spoken with no sound

Color (National Poetry Writing Month 2025 #9)   Leave a comment

While I watch, the world is burning.
I am filled with craving, yearning,
For a respite where I can just be me.

No, I did not choose to be this;
This shade of paint on the canvas.
So why can't you just let my color be?

Whitewash away the different,
Destroy what you call aberrant,
Erase the colors you don't wish to see.

If you crave only monochrome
Then march me to my catacomb.
At least, in death, I'll finally be free.

Beauty (National Poetry Writing Month 2025 #8)   Leave a comment

My thoughts are enveloped in a sea of beauty.
My eyes fall upon your visage: a true beauty.

As winds inevitably wear away the stone,
Time wears away at life's ethereal beauty.

As a photograph snapshots a moment in time,
My memory encapsulates all your beauty.

At the end, in the final gasp of the dying
We find a melancholic moment of beauty.

In this tempestuous screaming match with my love
I'm burned by a blistering, passionate beauty.

As long as I have drive to continue forward
I will fight endlessly to protect all beauty.

I Don’t (National Poetry Writing Month 2025 #7)   Leave a comment

I don't feel like doing much of anything today.
I don't feel like doing much of anything today.
I don't feel like doing anything.
I don't feel like anything
I don't feel anything.
I don't feel.
I don't.
I.

A Shade (National Poetry Writing Month 2025 #6)   Leave a comment

At what point did I drift
From human to a shade
Walking across the corpse
Of my former life?
I glide past former friends
A lover, a rival
Like a chill running down your spine
Maybe a moment's hesitation
Or a glance of reservation
Before I slide away
Entirely forgotten

The Mask You See (National Poetry Writing Month 2025 #5)   Leave a comment

I'll never remove
The mask you see
It's permanently affixed
But over time
With a little learning
Maybe I can
Draw something
A little closer
To the real me

Suffering Is My Lifelong Friend (National Poetry Writing Month 2025 #4)   Leave a comment

Suffering is my lifelong friend;
Happiness is far too fleeting.
Here from the start, until the end,
Suffering is my lifelong friend.
In spite of efforts to pretend,
As long as my heart keeps beating
Suffering is my lifelong friend;
Happiness is far too fleeting.

I Guess I’ll Be A Poet (National Poetry Writing Month 2025 #3)   Leave a comment

I tried to be a painter, but the color didn't match.
Tried to be a gardener, but couldn't till the soil.
I thought I could do baseball, but I don't know how to catch.
Maybe I'll be a wage slave, though I don't care for toil.
What if I was a prophet, weaving futures out of dream?
Or what if I'm a genius, but I'm too dumb to know it?
I guess I'll keep on churning, turning wordplay into cream.
Since language is my forte, I guess I'll be a poet.

Courting Death (National Poetry Writing Month 2025 #2)   Leave a comment

I am courting Death
With a bouquet of flowers
Vibrant and vivid
I'm not sure when we will meet
I hope he enjoys the gift

Abstraction (National Poetry Writing Month 2025 #1)   Leave a comment

Life is an abstraction
A distinct note in a swirling symphony
Ringing true, defiant
Forming part of the discordant melody
Played for our measured time
Before returning to untapped potential
To burst forth once again
When it is time for the next piece to be heard
