Simple (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #19)   Leave a comment

A simple poem because I am sick
Because my body is being a dick
I’ve been struck with this nasty malaise
Leaving my mind in a cloudy haze
I feel I can barely think
It’s like I’ve had too much to drink
And so I makes this simple rhyme
To get a poem done in time

Duality (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #18)   Leave a comment

I feel like I am a duality,
A two person harmony
A pair of people sharing
One single personality

Flipping back and forth between
Passive and aggressive
Sycophantic and oppressive
Being attentive or dismissive
Standoffish or too permissive

Which one of these is me?
I don’t know.
All of them, none of them,
Only the parts that I show?

Nothing To Do (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #17)   Leave a comment

I’ve got to get home as fast as I can;
I’ve got a lot of nothing to do.
Close down my laptop as quick as I can;
I have so much nothing to do.
I do a lot of nothing when I get the chance;
It’s really quite hard to do.
I’m usually doing easy stuff like working,
But nothing is quite hard to do.
I getting quite good at doing so little
With all of the nothing I do
And so I must go, there’s no time to waste
I’ve got a lot of nothing to do.

A Moment (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #16)   Leave a comment

The days go so slowly,
But the weeks go so fast.
The months count down endlessly
As the years blur past.
And yet I spend hours
Counting the minutes
Until the second I finally get
To spend a moment with you.

Talking Weather (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #15)   Leave a comment

One day it’s raining,
The next there is sun.
Maybe a blizzard?
A drought has begun!?

Utah weather is far too bipolar,
As summer and winter fight back and forth.
At least the weather is good for solar.
Although it’s just weather, for what it’s worth.

It’s a dull topic
Used to fill silence.
Although I’m myopic
About it’s presence.

Nothing (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #14)   Leave a comment

I feel I should do something,
But I don’t know what.
But I know it should be more
Than lazing around.

My time here is short;
Every moment is treasure.
I know this but still
I waste time doing nothing.

Whimpering Down The Correct Path (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #13)   Leave a comment

Instead of barking up the wrong tree,
I’m whimpering down the correct path.
Instead of going through life carefree,
I march ahead like a psychopath.

Inspite of my endless complaining
I will force myself to move forward.
Keep my resolve from ever waning;
With rules and discipline as my ward.

For we are all dogs without boundaries;
Running back and forth to disaster.
Barking non-stop at cars and at trees.
Desperate, in need of a master

But we can control our inner hounds
Through hard work and practice and kindness.
For keeping our mind within our bounds
Is our only way to make progress.

Sick and Tired (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #12)   Leave a comment

Sick and tired
Thoughts expired
Mired, drained
Joy restrained
Nausea hits
Eyesight quits
Head explodes
World erodes
Finally creep
To fitful sleep
Floating away
No more today

Semicolon (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #11)   Leave a comment

The semicolon means our life doesn’t necessarily end when it stops abruptly;
Instead we can keep on writing until we reach the ending we were supposed to have.
But it can also mean our life is one long unbroken sentence: never-ending, never breaking,
Only bending as we flow along the path cut before us
Finding what is in store for us until we finally reach the ocean and move on from what we know,
With our experiences and relationships the legacy we show for it;
The only way we stop is if we damn our own flow
And end the sentence before it really should be done.

Hero (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #10)   Leave a comment

I want to be a hero
I want to strive forward and face my fears
I want to do it so I can be better
Not for the admiration of my peers

I want the world to be a better place
So I will be the symbol of my ideas
I’ll bring my dreams from void and space
And through my action, make them real

A hero isn’t a hero through gifts and strength
Or because he’s the one who people call
No, he’s a hero because when he sees difficulty
He rushes forward and gives it his all

And life is difficulty, a forever fight
One we will never truly win
But in the darkness I’ll be the light
I want to be a hero, it’s time I begin.
