Suffering Is My Lifelong Friend (National Poetry Writing Month 2025 #4)   Leave a comment

Suffering is my lifelong friend;
Happiness is far too fleeting.
Here from the start, until the end,
Suffering is my lifelong friend.
In spite of efforts to pretend,
As long as my heart keeps beating
Suffering is my lifelong friend;
Happiness is far too fleeting.

Myself (National Poetry Writing Month 2024 #4)   Leave a comment

My body is on a call at work
My brain is online scrolling reddit
My love is curled up in her cat bed
My dreams are taking a smoke break
My thoughts are repeatedly playing the same song
My fears still hangout in the parking lot
My soul is still covered in soot
My hate lies dormant in it's cavern
My past pokes it head out from the fog
My future walks by my window
My thumbs finish typing this poem
My present finally hits publish

Flakes of Snow (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #4)   Leave a comment

The flakes of snow caress the sky
Then lie at rest upon the ground
Just like a bird who learns to fly
The flakes of snow caress the sky
I wish that I could soar as high
and float, carefree, with friends around
The flakes of snow caress the sky
Then lie at rest upon the ground

Free (National Poetry Writing Month 2021 #4)   Leave a comment

Another lie lays on its side
And hears the truths that I confide.
Alone, in my protective shell,
Protected by the lies I tell.
Within it’s walls, I can be me
And show the truths I long to be.

Until it’s time to step outside.
Until it’s time, once more, to hide.
I’ll bring my masks and lies to sell
Day after day, and do it well.
Present this stoic face you see
Keep myself under lock and key.

Day in, day out, just like the tide,
I’ll keep my true self deep inside.
But when I sit alone and dwell
And hide from interpersonal hell.
I’ll float in my internal sea;
Among it’s waves, I can be free.

Moving Days (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #4)   Leave a comment

Moving days
In bags and boxes
Trying to arrange
The time we have left

Sadness (National Poetry Writing Month 2019 #4)   Leave a comment

Sadness is a blanket draped across;
A curtain blocking out the light.
A rock slowly overgrown with moss.
A chill on a dark winter night.

Sadness is a badly needed pause
When something doesn’t go quite right.
A moment to identify cause;
Nothing to flee, try as we might.

Sadness contrasts the best in our life;
Perspective when our heart takes flight.
A warning alarm for times of strife.
A moment’s calm before the fight.

Sadness makes all more erudite:
Ignore it’s wisdom at your plight.

Focus (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #4)   Leave a comment

A vista from a mountain top on a sunny day.
A lack of other cars on a stretch of highway.
The spinning of the wheel as a Potter throws clay.
A sprint to the finish with nothing in the way.

A dinner growing cold as you work without cease.
A desire inside that you yearn to release.
A project whose progress begins to increase.
A mind that is racing, yet still and at peace.

Waking up early to breathe in morning air.
A feeling of knowing, of being aware.
A man with an intense, penetrating stare.
A firework: flash, then no longer there.

End Road Work (National Poetry Writing Month #4)   Leave a comment

end-road-work-ive-seen-these-protest-signs-for-years-3600863.png

End road work
The road has worked hard enough
No one cares about road’s rights
Always being put down by people smarter than them
Being walked all over
It’s not fair
Roads have lives too
They constantly cross each other’s paths
How would you like working 365 days a year, huh?

Amazing To Me (National Poetry Writing Month #4)   Leave a comment

I know that you’ve been trying to make it,
And that it can be hard to see.
But I’m impressed, no need to fake it.
You are amazing to me.

Not for reasons that don’t matter
But for the things you say and do.
You’ve changed from the on who help the ladder
To the one I look up to.

You’ve become someone so impressive.
And everything I’ve said is true.
I would give all I can give
To one day be as amazing as you.

Knowledge, Knowledge, Everywhere (National Poetry Writing Month 2015 #4)   Leave a comment

Knowledge, Knowledge, Everywhere
But no one stops to think.
They’re busy playing on Facebook,
Or having too much to drink.

Knowledge, Knowledge, everywhere
But no one seems to care.
They’re too busy shoving their heads
Up their collective derriere.

Knowledge, Knowledge everywhere
So what’s a man to do?
The world would be a better place,
If more believed in what is true.

Knowledge, Knowledge, everywhere
I’ll teach them how to yearn
For discovery, exploration
and all the cool things to learn.
