Anxiety (National Poetry Writing Month 2015 #22)   Leave a comment

It’s going to be ok
Seriously,
It’s going to be ok.
Things are going be going your way.
So don’t worry,
It will be ok.

It’s going to be alright.
I’m telling you,
Its going to be alright.
Things will work out, please just sit tight.
So don’t worry,
It will be alright.

It’s all going to be fine,
Just relax.
It’s going to be fine.
You’re always expecting things to decline.
But don’t worry.
It will be fine.

I hear the words,
But I don’t believe
It’s just myself
I’m trying to deceive.
It always seems to be haunting me.
This crippling sense of anxiety.

The Edge (National Poetry Writing Month 2015 # 21)   Leave a comment

Standing on this 18th floor balcony,
But unlike you I am alone.
In my mind I take a leap,
Body sinking like a stone.

It’s just a thought. I would regret it
Some where around floor nine.
But part of me just wont forget it
And beckons me towards the edge.

He looks me in the eyes and says
“Don’t you want to join the sky?
Lose the weight of all your troubles,
And for that glorious moment, fly?”

His words make sense; indeed, persuade me.
Despite how troubling they are.
It feels like nothing will dissuade me.
As I move closer to the edge.

I put my hand upon the wall;
Lift my legs over the railing.
My self destructive reasoner
Is the one finally prevailing.

In this moment, I seem to lack,
That basic instinct; self preservation.
The feeling that would hold me back
From finally falling off the edge.

All This I Know Is True (National Poetry Writing Month 2015 # 20)   Leave a comment

I know the earth is rotating,
I know the sky is blue.
I know the sun is a plasmatic ball.
All this I know is true.

I know that when I first heard you laugh,
My heart grew light and flew
I love the way your laughter sounds.
All this I know is true.

I know I’ll always love you,
No matter what you do.
You’ll always be here in my heart
All this I know is true.

I know you’ll always love me,
And all my problems too.
Even when times get a little tough
All this I know is true.

I cherish all the moments,
I get to spend with you.
There never is enough of them
All this I know is true.

Moments (National poetry Writing Month 2015 #19)   1 comment

I love the moments I spend with you.
My heart fills with sadness when my time with you is through.
I’m filled with anxiety, but then
My world is happy once more when I see you again.

Guitar in the Corner (National Poetry Writing Month 2015 #18)   Leave a comment

Guitar in the corner
Slowly gathering dust
I really should practice
I know that I must

But there’s not enough
Time in a day
At least that is the lie
I convince myself to say.

Carousel spinning,
Animals dance lazily,
Children’s joy echoes.

Something Fun (National Poetry Writing Month 2015 # 16)   Leave a comment

I want to do something!
No, not that dumb thing!
I want to do something fun.

I want to go play on a swing,
Or find a song to sing.
Something that I haven’t done.

Something exciting,
Something spirit igniting,
Something I haven’t done before.

The day is so inviting,
and this boredom so biting.
So I’m on my way out the door!

April Snow (National Poetry Writing Month 2015 #15)   Leave a comment

Snow falling in April
After weeks of sunny weather
Hardly seems real
When seasons blend together.

A treasure? Or a curse?
I can’t decide which.
My trip home is worse
When the seasons suddenly switch.

But my view is much better
Out my office window.
Either way, it’s interesting weather;
This falling April snow.

Predilection (National Poetry Writing Month 2015 #14)   Leave a comment

I’m lost in a world full of direction.
Exposed, out in the cold, without protection.
Cursed to be alone by predilection
For wanting to keep away from all rejection.

So once again I sit in introspection.
Every thought I have; a grim dissection.
All my flaws and fears, my imperfection
Slowly twist my mind with its infection.

A small part of me starts an insurrection
Against these toxic thoughts of disaffection.
Grows louder as it voices it’s objection
And coaxes me into a resurrection.

In this world, I’m trying to find direction.
I may be cold, but I’ll be my own protection.
I’m hoping i will find a good selection.
Of things truly worthy of predilection.

Box of Chocolates (National Poetry Writing Month 2015 #13)   Leave a comment

Life is like a box of chocolates;
You typically have
Your favorite flavors.
Most of them
Taste like crap.
