Distracted (National Poetry Writing Month 2025 #26)   Leave a comment

It's easy to get
Distracted
From what should matter

Just stare at your phone
On the couch
Fall into the void

Or just close your eyes
And drift off
Floating in your mind

Just anything else
Other than
The things that matter

Lines (National Poetry Writing Month 2024 #26)   Leave a comment

One by one
Stand in line
Patiently waiting our turn
Check the phone
Loose a sigh
Patiently waiting our turn
Thinking thoughts
Dreaming dreams
Patiently waiting our turn
All our life
Spent in lines
Patiently waiting our turn

The Lights (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #26)   Leave a comment

The lights you see
I built them for me
To guide me wherever I go
If far from home
I'm never alone
As long as I see them glow
Wherever I tread
Or rest my head
Inside, I'll always know
I'll be alright
Cause I see l the light
I built so long ago.

Migraine (National Poetry Writing Month 2022 #26)   Leave a comment

Ice pick eye
Sharp and stunning
Make my vision sparkle
As my brain starts burning
Electric shocks
Convulse in my head
As light becomes fire
Thought becomes hazy
Darkness falls
As I close my eyes
With little relief
I drift away

Skull Raid (National Poetry Writing Month 2021 #26)   1 comment

Oh no! A skull raid!
A pillage of my ideas
Thought has gone missing
Nothing left to do but sleep
New thoughts will be drawn from dreams

Lazy Sunday Afternoon (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #26)   Leave a comment

Lazy Sunday afternoon
Laying in the sun
Letting myself drift
Leaving the important things
Laying in the sun
Loving the peace and quiet
Laying in the sun on my
Lazy Sunday afternoon

Narcissism (National Poetry Writing Month 2019 #26)   Leave a comment

Narcissism is a hell
You don’t even know you’re in
You don’t notice all you lose
You only see when you win

You aren’t able to grow
Life unable to flower
The only things you can know
Are perfect in your tower

You are cursed to see it fall
Screaming your rage at the sky
Not seeing the world at all
Just yourself, until you die.

Role Playing (National Poetry Writing Month 2018 #26)   Leave a comment

I enjoy role playing,
Even if I’m not good at it.
I guess I feel the same about life.
The fun comes from the experience
Of the time spent with friends
And making interesting stories together.
The strength of your abilities,
Or the value of your equipment
Doesn’t matter so much.
If the goal is gaining riches,
Or battling dragons,
Or gaining renown,
Then I’m not very good at it.
But if it’s enjoying the adventure?
I think I’m getting pretty good at it.

Opposite Day (National Poetry Writing Month 2017 #26)   Leave a comment

On opposite day
Wouldn’t it be fun
If people had to defend
the beliefs they hate most?
The Christians could decry God
The atheists, praise Allah
The femenists could argue
The virtues of sandwich making
While the misogynists
Take a pay cut
The white supremacists
And the black supremacists
Can take turns
Being owner and servant
If for one day
We could argue
on behalf of our enemies
Imagine how much we’d learn.

Stand Tall! (National Poetry Writing Month #26)   Leave a comment

You missed paying your rent
Stand Tall!
Your paycheck’s all been spent
Stand Tall!
You bills will never dent
Stand Tall!
You still live with the ‘rents
Stand Tall!

You do not want to work
Stand Tall!
Your friends think your a jerk
Stand Tall!
You have a sneering smirk
Stand Tall!
You’re lazy; it’s a quirk
Stand Tall!

This opinion you exalt;
Stand Tall!
“It someone else’s fault!”
Stand Tall!
Your moneys in their vault
Stand Tall!
Your wounds are full of salt
Stand Tall!

It can’t be that you suck
Stand Tall!
You’re just down on your luck
Stand Tall!
You’re not a stupid schmuck
Stand Tall!
You’re just a little stuck
Stand Tall

No, you’re not the dick
Stand Tall!
Its them; he is the prick
Stand Tall!
With his opinion politic.
Stand Tall!
So time to throw the brick
Stand Tall!
