Distracted (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #29)   Leave a comment

You're sitting right across from me
With one ear in the air
You don't hear anything I say
And you don't even care
Too busy with that little voice
To even be aware
I know my words have hit a wall
And I can only stare
I could tell you that I'm upset
I don't think you would care
You only care about that voice
My words hit empty air
When it's speech is finally done
That's when you come aware
Left alone in an empty room
'Cause I'm no longer there.

Overwhelmed (National Poetry Writing Month 2022 #10)   Leave a comment

Overwhelming, all around me
A torrent of information
A fire hose of things to know
More exasperation

I cannot stop or turn it off
Building up frustration
I need to leave so I can breathe
And stop this perspiration

I'm out of there, the scent of air
Fills me with elation
My world is free, I'm here with me
In my dissociation

Distractions (National Poetry Writing Month 2017 #5)   Leave a comment

Trying to resist the distractions
The resistance
The attraction to doing everything but the thing I need to
I want to do it
But I can’t seem to
Quit getting in my way
And foiling my own plans
The rewards of the now
Taste so much better now
But the me of then
Will have to spend
All their time on the complications
I’d be so much better off
If I’d just eat my vegetables
And save desert for after.
