Magic Trick (National Poetry Writing Month 2025 #17)   Leave a comment

The magician purrs on my chest
And tells me to close my eyes.
With a flick of her tail
Poof!
She made hours vanish in seconds.

Cat Questions (National Poetry Writing Month 2024 #28)   Leave a comment

Why do you have to go to work?
Can't you stay home and play?
The time you have to go to work
Is my least favorite time of day.

Why do you have to go to sleep?
Can't you stay up and play?
I don't know why night is for sleep;
It's more comfy in the day.

Why do you have to close the door?
Open it up and play!
My litter box doesn't have a door;
It's much more friendly that way.

Why don't we curl up on the couch?
I'm tired from all the play.
Sure, let's lay down on the couch;
I wouldn't have it any other way.

Diabolical (National Poetry Writing Month 2024 #20)   Leave a comment

There is nothing like
Having a day full of things
You really wanted to get done
Only to have them
So ruthlessly thwarted
By the truly diabolical creature
Who is currently purring
Contentedly on my lap

Ms. Kitty (National Poetry Writing Month 2023 #16)   Leave a comment

Nice and warm
On my lap,
Ms. Kitty
Takes a nap.
Soon enough,
Without fail,
I doze off
And nap as well.

Cat in the Window (National Poetry Writing Month 2022 #8)   Leave a comment

Cat in the window
Staring at the sky
I wonder if she wonders
What it's like to fly?

Soaring through the clouds
With the birds, so high
Looping and turning
So carefree and spry

She got bored of the window
With a stretch and a sigh
And now she's just napping
As my daydream goes by.

A Cat’s Day (National Poetry Writing Month 2020 #10)   Leave a comment

A cat’s morning meow
A wall scratch
It’s time to get up

A cat’s midday nap
Soft warm place
Calm contented rest

A cat’s evening purr
Nice comfort
Happy and at peace
