Fear, Hate, Self (National Poetry Writing Month 2021 #15)   Leave a comment

We keep ourselves safe with fear
As we run from what we hate
In order to save our self.

But in preserving the self,
Must I hide within the fear
As I succumb to the hate?

Will I now let all this hate
Corrupt me to a worse self?
Is it now too late, I fear.

I fear I’ll hate my new self.
